WHAT IS . . . . . OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy recognises the importance of the link between the structure of the human body and the way it functions. Osteopaths focus on the body’s skeleton and joint function along with the underlying muscles, soft tissue and internal organs.

Osteopaths consider each person as an individual. Utilising a highly developed sense of touch, they identify problem areas of the body. Using gentle stretching and mobilising techniques as well as manipulating joints, an osteopath works with the body to create the perfect conditions to facilitate the healing process. Treatment usually consists of a combination of soft-tissue releasing techniques, and some specific adjustments affecting joints and soft-tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments).Advice can also be given on self-help treatments.

What Can It Help?

Osteopathy is clinically proven to be one of the best ways of relieving back pain, as well as many other conditions. Some conditions treatable by Osteopathy are:

Back Pain, Sports Injuries, Work Strain, Pregnancy, Headaches, Asthma, Neck Pain, Sciatica, Arthritis, Poor Circulation,Shoulder Pain, Jaw Problems, ME/CFS

CHILDREN AND OSTEOPATHY

Why Do Children Need to see an Osteopath?

It is a common belief that children and babies should have no structural stresses & strains in their body, because they are so young & flexible. The reality is very different. The birth of a baby is one of the most stressful events of its life. The baby is subjected to enormous forces as the uterus (or womb) pushes to expel it, against the natural resistance of the birth canal, turning & twisting as it squeezes through the bony pelvis, on its short, stimulating, but potentially stressful journey into the outside world.

Cranial osteopathy is the name given to a particular type of osteopathy that uses very gentle manipulative techniques, and includes treatment of the head as well as the rest of the body. It is effective for treatment of all types of conditions, and for all ages. It is particularly suitable for the treatment of children. Osteopaths believe all babies should be routinely checked after birth.

Osteopathy can help with many childhood problems including:

Crying or Irritable Baby, Feeding problems, Sickness, Colic & Wind, Head Banging, Effects of Prematurity, Sinus Problems & Mouth Breathers, Behavioural Problems & Hyperactivity, Cerebral Palsy & other Brain Disorders, Headaches, Asthma

The Perrin Technique of Treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / ME

The Perrin Technique is a clinically tested osteopathic approach to treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome /ME that manually stimulates the fluid motion around the brain and spinal cord. Manipulation of the spine further aids drainage of toxins out of the cerebrospinal fluid. Massage of the soft tissues in the head, neck, back and chest direct all the toxins out of the lymphatic system and into the blood, where they are eventually detoxified in the liver.Eventually with no toxins affecting the brain, the sympathetic nervous system begins to function correctly, and providing the patients do not overstrain themselves their symptoms should gradually improve and in time some patients become totally symptom free.
